Duathlon vs. Walkathon - what's the difference?
In the past, there has been some confusion about two of our awesome Tavelli events - the Duathlon and the Walk.a.thon. They do have a lot in common! Both events are held in the fall, support our school focus on wellness, and are super fun! Here's the difference:
DUATHLON (also called Tavelli Family Duathlon) - is a FREE family event that unites the Tavelli community and helps kick-off a healthy, fit
start to the school year. See the Wellness home page for more details. The Duathlon is sponsored by Healthy Kids Club and the Tavelli Wellness team and was held on Friday, September 12th.
WALKATHON (also called Tiger Fit Charge Walkathon) - is the primary fall fundraiser for our Tavelli PTO. Students collect pledges prior to
the event and then each grade level jogs/walks on our Tavelli field during the school day. Laps are tallied and great prizes are awarded for fund raising and total laps walked. Parent volunteers help organize logistics and cheer on students the day of the event. 100% of the money raised during the Walk.a.thon goes back to the Tavelli community in the form of student field trips, playground equipment, teacher special requests, and much more!
Last year's Walkathon was sponsored by PTO, Healthy Kids Club, Chipper's Lanes, and many other community partners. This year, the Walkathon will be held during the school day on Friday, October 10th!
